A Return to Writing
Or why have I decided to resurrect The Doohan Discourse right now
Many years ago, indeed it sometimes feels like a lifetime ago, I created a blog that went by many names over the course of its lifetime, eventually settling on the name by which it is most commonly known: The Doohan Discourse.
When that previous blog encountered its demise there were many reasons for it doing so, not least among them being a lack of time to devote to creating the posts on even a semi-regular basis. The advent of new responsibilities at that particular time saw less time being available for creative endeavours such as writing and so, rather than see a blog fall away because it was not being actively curated, I made the decision to call time on the undertaking.
Now, however, there is a lessening of other responsibilities to the point where I can once again turn my attention to the creative action of writing, crafting words into something that others might wish to read, and publishing it for all the world to see.
In reality I am going to start slowly, with a promise to post just one longer piece each week, a ‘column’ if you will in the tradition of many of the mainstream newspapers. Limiting myself to this one piece a week will initially help me to garner the discipline necessary to dedicate myself to maintaining and curating the content that will be found on The Doohan Discourse.
As time goes by, and as the discipline becomes ingrained, there may be an expansion to a second, shorter piece each week as well, again designed to ensure that I can consistently commit to creating and publishing that which I have promised to do.
In the longer term, and as experience permits, there may even be the chance for other options to be added to The Doohan Discourse, but only when and if time and discipline permits. So watch this space.
What shall I be writing about?
There is part of the initial discipline. I would like to write my longer pieces on those topics which call out to be written about, writing on them from the perspective of my own Catholic Christian faith and ministry. The chosen topics will not always been clearly ‘Catholic’ in tone, but they will certainly be written from that perspective since that is part of who I am and what makes me who I am.
If anyone has suggestions about potential topics for me, please get in touch and let me know. I cannot undertake to abide by every suggestion, but I will certainly promise to carefully consider every suggestion that is made.
And so, welcome (back) to The Doohan Discourse, and I hope that what you encounter here might help you along the way and, perhaps, make you stop and think even just for a minute.
Téigh go réidh agus beannacht Dé ort.
